Last week, Truro City Council completed external refurbishment works to the Zebs building in Truro, a Council-owned property leased to Young People Cornwall.

The work focused on improving the front elevation of the building, including external redecoration and the installation of new doors and windows. These improvements have enhanced the building’s appearance while also improving its energy efficiency and safety of the building.

The Council has undertaken these works as part of its ongoing programme to maintain and improve community buildings, ensuring they remain safe, sustainable, and fit for purpose. The Zebs building provides space for Young People Cornwall to deliver youth services for young people in the city. Maintaining the building helps ensure these services can continue to operate in a safe, welcoming facility.

This project supports the Council’s Objective 1 – ‘Our Communities‘, which focuses on strengthening community infrastructure and improving support for young people across Truro and Objective 6 – ‘Our Buildings, Culture and Heritage‘, which includes maintaining and modernising community buildings to keep them compliant, safe, and capable of supporting local organisations and services.

Resident feedback highlighted the importance of this work and found that 31% of residents identified supporting young people as one of the Council’s most important services, with 24% saying more activities and opportunities for young people would improve their local area.
