On Wednesday 15th and Thursday 16th January, Visit Cornwall brought back and hosted their 2025 Tourism Summit, which was held at The Alverton in Truro. Representatives from various departments at Truro City Council attended the summit, including the Mayor of Truro, Cllr Carol Swain and Town Clerk, David Rodda.
We are delighted this event was hosted in Truro, as it offered a great opportunity for us to meet a diverse range of professionals and leaders from across the tourism sector in the South West, and understand how this can reflect the City Council’s objectives for Truro.
One of the more prominent speakers at the event was renowned travel writer and broadcaster, Simon Calder. Upon hearing Simon’s positive reflections on his visit to Truro, our Town Clerk used this opportunity to draw on Simon’s international viewpoint and learn about what more could be done to promote Truro as an enticing visitor destination.

Truro City Council are grateful to have the opportunity to engage in regular partnership working with Visit Cornwall, and on this occasion, staff from our Visit Truro and events teams were able to assist with the event organisation.
The Mayor of Truro said: “I was very pleased to attend the Visit Cornwall Tourism Summit which was held in Truro this week. It was fantastic to see business leaders from across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly congregate in Truro, alongside the leaders of Visit England, UK Hospitality, and a representative from the Government. It also provided an excellent opportunity for national organisations to focus their thoughts on Truro during the event. Ably organised by Visit Cornwall, I was also pleased that our Visit Truro and Events team were also able to help make the event a success.”
We would like to give a heartfelt thank you and congratulations to all those involved in planning this impactful event.
