As we head towards Armistice Day, Truro will be hosting a series of Remembrance events taking place across the city. These events are organised in partnership between Truro City Council, the Truro Branch of the Royal British Legion, and Truro Cathedral.

Residents and visitors are welcome to attend the commemorations, which include the launch of the Poppy Appeal, the Blessing of the Garden of Remembrance, Remembrance Sunday services and an Armistice Day two-minute silence. Please find more information below.

The first event will be the Launch of the Poppy Appeal, which will take place on Saturday 24th October at High Cross Truro at 11:00am. There will also be a Blessing of the Garden of Remembrance which will take place on Sunday 1st November on the lawn at the east end of Truro Cathedral at 11:45am.

On Remembrance Sunday, 8th November, the Act of Remembrance will take place at 11:00am at the Truro War Memorial in Boscawen Street. A wreath laying ceremony will take place at 2:30pm at Truro War Memorial, followed by a military procession. The parade will pause on Boscawen Street for a salute with His Majesty the King’s Lord-Lieutenant for Cornwall, Colonel Sir Edward Bolitho KCVO OBE. The procession will then continue to High Cross, where the Guard of Honour will form before being joined by the Civic Procession. The day’s commemorations will conclude with a Service of Remembrance at Truro Cathedral, starting at 3:15pm.

On Armistice Day, Wednesday 11th November, a two-minute silence will be observed at 11:00am at the War Memorial in Boscawen Street, led by the Truro Branch of the Royal British Legion, to mark the ending of the First World War in 1918.

The Mayor of Truro, Councillor Chris Wells, said: “The November Remembrance events are an opportunity for us all to remember the many people who have given their lives in the service of our country, and to honour their bravery and sacrifice.

I feel very privileged to be able to represent the people of Truro and the City’s Councillors and staff on these important occasions. It is always gratifying to see a good turnout of local people showing their support. I am sure the service personnel and the veterans are particularly grateful.”
