Truro is celebrating success in this year’s Britain in Bloom and South West in Bloom competitions, recognising the dedication of the Council’s Parks and Gardens Department, volunteers, community groups and local organisations who work throughout the year to maintain and enhance the city’s green spaces.

At the national Britain in Bloom Awards, held in Rochdale on Tuesday 20th October, Truro was awarded Gold and named Winner of the Large Town category, marking another significant achievement for the city.

The ceremony was attended by the Mayor of Truro, Councillor Chris Wells; Stephen Kirkpatrick, Lead Countryside Ranger at Truro City Council; and Truro in Bloom Committee representatives Godfrey and Peggy Mortimer and Janie Godfrey-Ryle.

Truro’s success continued at the Southwest in Bloom Awards, held in Newquay on Friday 23rd October, where the city was awarded Gold and received the Sargent Trophy for the best large town as well as Gold and the Coastal and Estuary Trophy. Tregolls Manor also won Gold in the business category. The Southwest in Bloom “In Your Neighbourhood” awards will be announced on the 3rd of November.

Representing Truro at the regional ceremony were the Mayor of Truro, Councillor Chris Wells; Truro Town Crier Lionel Knight and his consort, Carol Knight; members of Truro City Council’s Parks and Gardens Department; and representatives of Truro in Bloom.

The awards recognise the year-round work involved in maintaining and enhancing Truro’s parks, gardens, floral displays and public spaces, as well as the contribution of community groups, volunteers and local organisations to the city’s environment. This includes those who took on the task of repainting bollards in the City Centre and beyond this year.

Truro City Council would like to extend its thanks and congratulations to the Council’s Parks and Gardens Department, Truro in Bloom Committee, Truro BID, Biffa, volunteers, community groups, local businesses and everyone who contributes to making Truro a vibrant and welcoming city for residents and visitors.

The Mayor of Truro, Councillor Chris Wells, said: “The national and regional Britain in Bloom results are a wonderful testament of the enthusiasm and hard work of many people including the volunteers in community groups and the city council’s parks staff as well as businesses across Truro. Each of them should feel pride in Truro’s success and I thank everyone for their contribution in making the city such a beautiful place to live in and to visit.”

The Council’s continued participation in the Britain in Bloom and Southwest in Bloom competitions supports Objective 2 – ‘Our Environment’ of Truro City Council’s 2026–2030 Strategy, reflecting its commitment to maintaining and enhancing the city’s parks, gardens and green spaces.
