On Monday 11th May 2026, Truro City Council formally welcomed Councillor Christopher Wells as the elected Mayor of Truro during the Annual Meeting and Mayor Making Ceremony, held at Truro Methodist Church.

Councillor Wells was first elected to Truro City Council in 1983 and has previously chaired both the Finance & General Purposes Committee and the Planning Committee. In recognition of his longstanding service to the city, he was awarded the title of Honorary Freeman of the City of Truro in 2015. He was first elected Mayor of Truro in 2025 and will now continue into a second term for 2026-27.

Alongside his civic duties, he is Vice-Chairman of the Kenwyn with St Allen Parochial Church Council, a member of the Hendra Community Group, and works closely with several residents’ groups. The mayor’s chosen charity for his second term is Young People Cornwall – aligning with his passion to support and work with the young people of Truro.

The Mayor of Truro, Councillor Chris Wells, said: “As I said in my speech, I hope I can continue to fulfil the expectations of those that have placed their trust in me. It really is a great honour and privilege to be able to serve as the Mayor of Truro.”

Councillor Wells was proposed by Councillor Steven Webb and seconded by Councillor James Tucker.
