V E Day 75

Due to the current circumstance however, this physical celebration unfortunately cannot happen. Although we are in the midst of one of the toughest times, the world has seen since the second world war. We still recognise the importance of remembering the arrival of peace in Europe, 75 years ago.

We have decided to do this virtually by posting a series of poems from the second world war and VE Day, Bert Biscoe who is a poet, has kindly selected, read and recorded these for us to share with you.

We hope these poems give the community an opportunity to reflect on the enormous sacrifice, bravery and strength of those who saw us though very tough and terrifying period in our history.

We would also like to dedicate these readings to a wonderful man who the city sadly lost recently, Mr John Lowe – the Secretary of the Truro branch of the Royal British Legion. He was loved by all and will be very sorely missed.

Readings will be posted on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday each week leading up to VE Day and we will also have the Cry for Peace from our wonderful Town Crier, Lionel Knight at 6:55pm on Friday, 8th May 2020. This will be on Facebook live for everyone to watch, please click on the link for the Truro City Council Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/trurocitycouncil/

We hope you all enjoy these while staying at home and taking care.
