Statement by Truro City Council: Royal Cornwall Museum

We were shocked and saddened to hear the news this week that the Royal Cornwall Museum may face potential closure.

Unfortunately, we are not involved in these decisions and can only express our full support to the museum at this time.

The museum is a key cultural asset to Cornwall and we are extremely honoured that Truro is its home.

Mayor of Truro, Cllr Steven Webb, commented: “I am a huge supporter of the museum, and a regular visitor to the many changing exhibitions.

“On a personal level and as Mayor of Truro, I will do everything I can to support the museum staying open.”

We have enjoyed many exhibitions over the years and were proud that one of the most recent focused on our city and we were pleased that it demonstrated Truro’s rich heritage.

As a council, we have hosted several events at the museum. Most recently, we welcomed invited guests to the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Parade, where the museum acted as a meeting point. Many had forgotten what a wonderful facility it is and were grateful to be given the opportunity to explore the museum again.

We hope a solution can be found in the coming days and weeks.
