The Mayor of Truro, Cllr Steven Webb, said: “Her Majesty The Queen has served this country for over 70 years, which shows remarkable commitment and dedication.

“I look forward to celebrating and honouring this amazing occasion and hope that many of you will join us in Truro to give thanks to Her Majesty.”

Thursday 2nd June:

The extended bank holiday weekend then begins on Thursday 2nd June, with several events taking place in Truro.

We will start the day with a special broadcast of Trooping the Colour on screens on Lemon Quay.

Trooping the Colour usually takes place as part of the official birthday celebrations for Her Majesty The Queen, but this year has been brought forward to coincide with the Jubilee.

The parade, featuring soldiers, musicians, and horses, will be broadcast live from London on BBC One at 10.00.

Following, there will be a celebratory parade in Truro City Centre at 13.00, organised by Bert Biscoe on behalf of The Lord Lieutenant of Cornwall Col Edward Bolitho, and the Rt Rev Philip Mountstephen, Bishop of Truro. This parade will culminate on High Cross at 13.30, for a short service of thanksgiving.

At 14.00, Truro’s Town Crier, Lionel Knight, will be giving his proclamation on Boscawen Street.

Town Criers across the country and the Commonwealth will be reading the proclamation, signalling the lighting of the beacon. Over 2,000 beacons are to be lit throughout the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, and UK Overseas Territories, as well as the capital cities of the Commonwealth, in recognition of Her Majesty’s service.

Elsewhere in the city, Raymond’s Amusements will be on Lemon Quay throughout the day on both Thursday 2nd and Friday 3rd June with children’s fairground rides.

Saturday 4th June:

The celebrations continue into the weekend with Truro Farmers Market’s Jubilee Market, and Truro BID’s Hobbyist Day both taking place on Saturday 4th June.

The farmers market will adopt a street-party theme and will be on Lemon Quay from 09.00 – 16.00. The green and white striped tents will line the Quay, with a vast selection of Cornish produce and craft.

There will also be the addition of live music, as well as children’s entertainment.

Stewart Girvan, market co-ordinator of Truro Farmers Market, commented: “We are thrilled to be involved with the Jubilee events in Truro. We hope you will join us for a fun family day at the market as the city comes together to celebrate The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.”

Truro BID’s Hobbyist event will take place from 09.00 – 17.00. There will be a comprehensive classic car display on Lemon Street, featuring cars from the 1960s – 1980s.

An array of stalls will also be set up on Lower Lemon Street, featuring local retailers, craft demonstrations, displays and workshops.

There will be street entertainment throughout the day, and at midday, we will be treated to a special performance by the Kesson Tus singers in Lemon Street Market.

Alun Jones, Truro BID Manager, said: “Truro BID are delighted to bring an event to Truro City Centre on Saturday 4th June to add to the Jubilee programme.

“Along with several other activities and events planned by many partnership organisations within the city throughout the week of the Jubilee, collectively this will create many reasons to visit and enjoy Truro.”

In addition, there will be themed children’s activities at Truro Community Library on Saturday 4th June.

From 10.30, join John Brolly from the Minack Theatre, who will be giving a storytelling experience in the Truro Community Library Garden, to the rear of the library.

Whilst this is a free event, it will be ticketed. Tickets are available to collect from the Enquiry Desk at Truro Community Library on Union Place.

This event will be followed by a free arts and crafts activity at the library.
