Statement from Mayor of Truro RE Wilko Stores

The Mayor of Truro is very sad to hear the news that the city’s Wilko store is to close its doors next week. This is a tragedy for the hard-working staff who will now be made redundant. The retail sector in Truro has been in decline for some time, as a result of the growth in online and out-of-town shopping, exacerbated by the lingering effects of the pandemic. Truro City Council is working with partner organisations including Truro BID, Truro Towns Fund Board and Cornwall Council, to make Truro as inviting a place as possible to do business, as well as to develop alternative uses for vacant commercial properties.
