Press release from the Mayor of Truro – Councillor Steven Webb

As 19 July approaches and national lockdown lifts, I wanted to take this opportunity to thank the businesses, organisations, and the residents of Truro for taking the health of the community seriously and complying with covid regulations. We have made great progress in fighting the virus, however as I am sure you are aware, there are rising cases in the county and now is not the time to be complacent. As rules relax and measures move to personal responsibility, I feel it is my duty as Mayor of Truro to urge you to continue to be aware of transmission and therefore still comply with social distancing measures including wearing masks when visiting local businesses to reduce further cases and keep infection rates as low as possible.

I empathise with the need to meet with family and friends and to return to normality as quickly as possible, yet we all have a responsibility to ourselves and others to keep us all safe as we move through this period of transition. I am proud of the businesses, organisations, residents, and visitors who have complied with regulations, and I ask for you to please keep the safety of your families and the community in mind as life begins to return to normal. We have challenging times ahead with the changing face of city centres and I look forward to meeting with many of you as we move to this next phase.

I have advised the City Council continues to hold public meetings with social distancing measures in mind to ensure the safety of Councillors, staff, and the public. I hope you support this decision and consider ways to apply them similarly in your own lives.
