Job Vacancy – Victoria Gardens Park Attendant

Truro City Council is looking to expand the Parks team. Victoria Gardens is a popular place for locals and visitors alike to visit throughout the year and particularly in the Summer.

We are excited to offer this position within the Parks Department. We are seeking individuals who are friendly, enthusiastic and have a ‘can do’ attitude. Experience in a maintenance and horticulture is desired but not essential as we can provide the training you need.

This role is for a Part-time Fixed-term position.

6 month Fixed Term Contract from 1st April to 31st October. Monday to Friday 4.5 hours per day (normally worked as 4:30pm – 9pm) however hours may be altered depending on sunlight e.g. 3:30pm to 8pm as the sun sets earlier. Average 22.5 hours per week.

In this role you will be required to:

  • To lock the gates to the Gardens.
  • To supervise all facilities in Victoria Gardens.
  • To collect litter in Voctoria Gardens, Waterfall Gardens, Hendra Playing Field and Dreadnought playing Field and the Skate Park and to empty litter bins and recycle on a daily basis.
  • To keep the five-a-side court, car park areas, skate park and path swept and clear of debris.
  • To check council property and report any damage to the Parks and Amenities Department staff.
  • To liaise with members of the public and the Parks and Amenities Department regarding any queries or matters arising. 
  • To oversee the use of the Children’s play area and provide basic first aid when required.
  • To maintain general supervision throughout the park and ensure the area is maintained in an orderly and safe condition and to prevent vandalism or damage to the council’s property wherever possible.
  • To summon the Police or other Emergency Services if and when necessary
  • To monitor dog fouling in the parks.
  • Supervisory responsibility of youth trainees
  • To undertake any other duties as requested by the management team.
  • Construction / work repairs to council property including painting walls, benches etc.
  • Assisting the Head Gardener with horticultural duties when required.
  • Set up prep for events as required.
  • Cover holidays and weekend work (on occasion).

A driving licence is essential for this role.

We offer 23 days holiday a year; plus, bank holidays, two additional statutory days, St Piran’s day, should this fall on a working day and a Local Government Pension scheme. Holiday will be pro-rata based on your hours of work.
