Job Vacancy – Café Supervisor

Truro City Council is looking to expand the café in the park team. Our café is open 7 days per week and is based in Boscawen Park. It is a 35-seat café that opened in the summer.

We are excited to expand our team to be able to respond to our peak times. We are seeking individuals who are friendly, enthusiastic and have a ‘can do’ attitude. Experience in a hospitality setting is desired but not essential as we can provide the training you need. What is important, is the ability to provide brilliant customer service and people skills to support our customers to enjoy their visit.

In this role you will be required to:

  • To supervise the Café on a day-to-day basis when the Café Manager is absent
  • Staffing
  • To set a high example to all staff of how to work and behave while in the café setting
  • To ensure all staff follow guidelines set out by the Café Manager
  • To help build team morale in a positive manner
  • To keep a close eye on the cleanliness and standards of the Café and maintain these at all times
  • To prioritise customer experience
  • Flexibility to cover sickness and holidays when necessary to allow the smooth running of the Café and to do the occasional early start or late finish
  • Add creative input for new ideas and present practical solutions to improve the Café where possible
  • To support the process for the receipt of monies, banking and maintaining cash security
  • To ensure the Café is compliant with food hygiene and other regulations by ensuring daily checklists are completed
  • To be responsible for the purchase of supplies for the Café while on shift, following the purchase guidelines set by the Café Manager
  • Prepare and serve hot and cold food and beverages
  • Wait on tables
  • Manage daily Café preparations and general cleaning at the end of each day, making sure the Café is left ready for the day ahead
  • To engage with customer in a professional and friendly manner and deal with any complaints on shift
  • To process cash and card payments accordingly
  • To receive and store stock as required
  • To be willing to work in a fast paced environment where keeping to a tight time schedule is key
  • Maintain close communication with the Café Manager to work together as a team.

We offer 23 days holiday a year; plus, bank holidays, two additional statutory days, St Piran’s day, should this fall on a working day and a Local Government Pension scheme. Holiday will be pro-rata based on your hours of work.
