Get ready for Truro City Council’s New Year’s Eve Fireworks displays

17 December 2023

Truro City Council is putting the finishing touches to plans for this year’s New Year’s Eve celebrations in the city and is looking forward to welcoming people to the two fireworks displays taking place on the evening of Sunday, 31st December.

The family fireworks will take place at 7.30 pm, with the traditional midnight fireworks display beginning just before midnight on the 31st. Members of the public are invited to view the free displays from Lemon Quay.

“I am delighted that the City Council is once again organising free firework displays on New Year’s Eve for the local community to enjoy.” said Truro Mayor Carol Swain. “I am really looking forward to seeing people join together on Lemon Quay to celebrate New Year’s Eve and am keeping my fingers crossed for good weather on the night.”

The family fireworks were first introduced in 2019, but were unable to take place for the following two years because of the pandemic. Last year’s display proved very popular with families, and we are delighted to be able to stage the event again this year.

Thanks to support from sponsors Truro Property Trust Fund, Raymonds Amusements and Daisy Fay’s Nursery, and generous donations from members of the local community, we can also once again offer £3 vouchers to children under 16 years attending the family display.  The free vouchers can be used towards the cost of food, drink, sweets or a carousel ride from either Raymond’s stall or the Sausage Grill, who have offered to remain open to support the event, on Lemon Quay.

Children will be able to collect their vouchers from volunteers at the far end of  Lemon Quay ( opposite the Hall for Cornwall) from 6.30 pm on 31 December.  The vouchers, which can only be used at the family display on the evening of Sunday, 31 December 2023, will be handed out on a first-come first-served basis.

A huge thank you to Paul Caruana for organising the voucher scheme and leading the amazing fund raising effort. Paul will also be working with a team of volunteers to clear up the Truro School on New Year’s Day.

Both the family display and the traditional midnight display are free to attend – thanks to the generous support from sponsors who this year include:

  • Glenn Humphries Ltd
  • Harris Begley Financial Management
  • Goundry Estate Agents
  • Functional Works
  • Truro BID
  • Cllr Rich (TCC)
  • Cllr Nolan (TCC)
  • Cllr Wells (TCC)
  • Cllr Harris (TCC)

We are also very grateful to Truro School for giving us permission to use their grounds.

“We know that the past 12 months have been very difficult for many people “ said Cllr Swain.  “We look forward to welcoming you to Lemon Quay just before midnight so we can welcome the New Year in together when the clock strikes 12.
