Deputy Town Clerk appointed for Truro

15 January 2024

Truro City Council has appointed Esther Grieg as its Deputy Town Clerk. Esther, currently Camelford Town Clerk and Responsible Financial Officer, will take up her new role from Monday, 4 March.

Announcing the appointment Truro Mayor Cllr Carol Swain said “To the best of our knowledge this is the first time the City Council has appointed a Deputy Town Clerk.  We had an extremely strong field of candidates and were very pleased to offer Esther the role”.

“We are delighted that Esther decided to accept the position and are looking forward to her arrival”.

Esther has 13 years’ experience as a Clerk for Parish and Town Councils. She was appointed as the Clerk to Camelford Town Council in 2017.  Prior to 2008, she worked for 10 years in financial services; Barclays, Santander and General Motors – as a Financial Adviser, a Senior Commercial and Sub-Prime Mortgage Underwriter respectively. She was a Retail Operations Manager and Project Coordinator for Universal Cinemas International for 3 years. Esther moved to the South West in 2001.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Camelford and am very proud of the many positive things the Council has achieved during the past seven years” she said.

“While I will be sad to leave, I felt it was time for a new challenge.  I was very excited when I saw the advert for the Deputy Town Clerk role which will enable me to focus on finance and service delivery.

“This is a very important time for both Truro and the City Council. As well as the incredible opportunities offered by the Truro Town Deal programme and the development of Pydar and Langarth Garden Village projects, Truro, like many other towns and cities across the country, faces the challenges caused by the pressure on housing, the decline of retail centres and the impact of the cost of living crisis.

“I am looking forward to joining the team at the City Council and working with partners so that we can grasp these opportunities and tackle the challenges and build a vibrant future for the city”.
