Cllr Carol Swain
Carol Swain moved from Manchester to Truro in 2003, after ill-health caused an early end to her career in NHS Finance. Thankfully now fully recovered, she has been Treasurer of the Beechwood Parc Community Association for the last seven years and is an active member of the Liberal Democrats. She was co-opted on to the City Council in 2018 to represent the Tregolls ward where she lives, and was elected for the same ward in 2021. She is a passionate campaigner for all those individuals and groups who are at risk of being left behind by society. Carol is the current Mayor.

Chris Wells was first elected to the council in 1983 and has chaired the Finance & General Purposes and Planning Committees.  He was conferred the title of Honorary Freeman of the City of Truro in 2015.  A former member of Carrick District Council, he was elected to Cornwall Council in 2021. In addition to being a member of the Kenwyn with St Allen Parochial Church Council and the Hendra Community Group, he works actively with other residents’ groups and is a trustee & director of Young People Cornwall.  He is General Manager of a frozen food delivery company.

Lindsay was elected to the City Council in 2007, representing the Green Party. She retired from the NHS in 2011, having worked as a critical care nurse at RCHT and, latterly, as a Health Visitor in the St Austell area. She has been an environmental activist for many years. She has been mayor on two occasions. She is involved in the emerging Wildly Edible project – growing food alongside wild flowers and insect habitat, Truro Repair Café, Transition Truro, Truro Bridges – bringing the community together in shared activities.

Loic was born in Truro, where he lives and works. He went to Richard Lander School and Falmouth University. With a background in journalism and screenwriting, and work commissioned by a range of newspapers, magazines and film organisations, Loic has also worked in retail and catering, and continues to work in music and copywriting. Lorrie was first elected to Truro City Council in 1979 and has served on all three committees, having been Chairman of Parks more than once. As Mayor in 1987/8 she raised £28,600 to benefit a Truro Charity for the homeless and worked with RAF St Mawgan to Adopt 236 OCU for the City. Lorrie also served as Mayor for a second time in 2015/16. She organised Truro’s first half Marathon and led a march of nearly 1,000 people to ‘Save our City Hall’ She continues to volunteer with a number of charities and community activities and is Chairman of Truro in Bloom. Lorrie is the current Chair of the Parks and Amenities Committee.

Nigel works as a professor of public health and epidemiology for the University of Exeter, based at the Knowledge Spa at Treliske in Truro. He lives near the Truro Health Park. This is his first experience as a councillor, having been elected in May 2021. He is originally from West Yorkshire, but also grew up in the North East of England and in South London.  In his adult life he has worked in Manchester, Newcastle, and Cambridge, and spent time outside the UK, working for the University of the West Indies in the Caribbean, and for the World Health Organization in Geneva. He is on the council to work with others for a fairer and greener Truro. This includes working to help provide better access to sustainably produced local food and healthy diets for all.  He volunteers with the Truro Homeless Action Group (THAG) and has volunteered with local food producers. He is the current Vice-Chair of the Finance and General Purposes Committee.

Sarah grew up in St Agnes and has lived in Truro since 1992. Her career was in Housing having worked in various roles in Colchester, Essex before moving to Carrick District Council as a Housing Advice Officer. Latterly she helped to deliver new affordable homes and managed a project to ensure private discounted sale homes went to local people in housing need. Since leaving Cornwall Council in 2019 Sarah has used her housing experience volunteering as a trustee for Truro Municipal Charities. Sarah has a longstanding interest in the low carbon agenda, in particular sustainable transport. She is cofounder and convener of Truro Cycling Campaign and until its closure in 2023 worked and volunteered for Co Cars car sharing club. She is also a member of Transition Truro. Sarah was elected to Truro City Council in June 2023.
