Truro to celebrate St Piran’s Day

Truro City Council is excited to be working with partners Truro Old Cornwall Society and Salt Projects (Cornwall) to plan the 2023 St Piran’s Day Parade.

This year, Truro’s celebrations will take place on Saturday 4th March.

St Piran’s Feast falls on 5th March each year. Truro’s parade is a celebration of Cornwall’s patron saint, and of the values for which he stands – caring, creativity, living within our environment, respect, inclusion and peace.

The Parade will set off from Waterfall Gardens on St George’s Road at 13.00, heading towards the War Memorial on Boscawen Street, ending at High Cross, with brief speeches and the Cornish anthem, Trelawny.

Elsewhere in the city, Truro Farmers Market will mark the occasion with their St Piran’s Market, which will take place on Lemon Quay between 09.00 and 16.00 on Saturday 4th March. This specialty market will feature a pasty making competition, as well as live Cornish music and Cornish vintage tractors.

We hope Truro will be awash with Cornish colours for the 2023 Shop Window Competition, which will be judged on the morning of Saturday 4th March by the Mayor of Truro, Cllr Steven Webb, and Truro’s Town Crier, Lionel Knight.

The winner will be announced during the speeches at High Cross at 13.30, and they will then be awarded a trophy to display in their window until the end of March.

Children can also learn more about St Piran with family-friendly activities at Truro Community Library, which will take place on Saturday 4th March.

In the meantime, children can collect a free St Piran’s activity sheet, produced by Truro City Council. The sheets will be available to collect from Truro Community Library and the Truro Visitor Information Centre from February half-term. Digital versions will also be available to download from the Visit Truro website: www.visittruro.org.uk

Further details will be announced in due course. For updates, please see our website and social media channels: www.visittruro.org.uk, @visittruro
