Truro City Council introduces ‘Warm Welcome’ initiative

Truro City Council, working alongside CHAOS Group and Volunteer Cornwall, is pleased to introduce the new ‘Warm Welcome’ initiative, which aims to relieve the pressures from those in our community this winter amid the rising cost of living.

Warm Welcome will provide warm and safe community spaces for people to visit during the winter, reducing energy usage at home.

The Mayor of Truro, Cllr Steven Webb, said: “We recognise that this is a difficult and challenging time for many people and families and we are proud to be able to offer some support in the way of the Warm Welcome project.

“It is important now more than ever to come together as a community to support one another and this project encourages just that.”

Babs Rounsevell MBE, Managing Director of the CHAOS Group, added: “People are feeling the pinch, with money not going as far as it used to. CHAOS are delighted to be involved in this great common-sense approach and joint working with Truro City Council on this project.”

The free weekly programme will begin on Monday 24th October and will run until March.

Volunteers from the CHAOS Group will be staffing each provision, offering free tea and coffee, and hot food.

There will also be creative activities on offer and people are encouraged to bring along a book, a game, or anything else they may like to do.

Staff from Truro City Council and CHAOS will be on hand to deliver Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) and signposting to support agencies. There will also be an occasional drop in from agencies delivering IAG, which will be advertised in advance.

The sessions will be delivered as follows:

Monday: 9am – 1pm at Moresk Centre, Kemp Close, Truro, TR1 1EF.

Monday: 11am – 1pm at Trelander and St. Clements Community Hall, Trelander Highway, Truro, TR1 1PE, with Trelander Food Larder between 11:00am and 12:00pm.
