Official opening of new Changing Places toilet at Boscawen Park

20 March 2024

Truro Mayor Cllr Carol Swain cuts a ribbon to mark the official opening of the Changing Places toilet at the Boscawen Park Tennis Pavilion.

The opening of the new Changing Places toilet is the final part of the Truro City Council led Boscawen Park project to be completed.  Grant funding for the toilet has been provided by the Government’s Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities.

Other facilities already in place include the Café in the Park, new tennis changing and shower rooms, extra public conveniences including an accessible toilet and baby changing unit, and a room for the Truro Loops project. The City Council also co-ordinated the resurfacing of the car park next to the building.

Designed for people who struggle to use standard accessible toilets, Changing Places toilets provide additional equipment such as adult sized height adjustable changing benches, height adjustable wash basins, hoists, privacy screens and space for carers.

“The City Council is committed to meeting the needs of all our residents and visitors“ said Mayor Carol Swain. “The new Changing Places toilet at Boscawen Park will mean people with disabilities and their families will be able to visit the park and surrounding areas with confidence that there is access to these types of facilities”.

A further Changing Places facility is also being provided as part of the scheme to upgrade the public toilets in Green Street.  As well as refurbishing the existing toilets, the scheme, which is being delivered through a partnership between Truro City Council, Cornwall Council and Truro Town Deal Board, will provide the first public fully accessible facility in the city centre.

Due to be completed in May, the scheme will also provide a new disabled parking space and a mural.
