On Wednesday, 21 June, Truro hosted the latest stage of the Armed Forces Community Flag Relay ceremony. The day was also Reserves Day which has a special importance for the city which has an Army Reserve Centre based at Moresk Road.
Speaking after being presented with the Armed Forces Day flag, Truro City Mayor, Cllr Carol Swain said “Reserves Day, leading up to Armed Forces Day, is a special opportunity for our local community to be reminded of the contribution our Reserves personnel make to the Armed Forces and to our society.
“It’s a great honour and privilege to take part in this special Reserves Day Flag Relay Ceremony and take possession of the Armed Forces Day flag which is a clear and visible manifestation of their support. “
Following the formal presentation the flag was raised as a token of respect for all Armed Forces personnel who live both in Cornwall and elsewhere, for the enormous contribution they have made over the decades and continue to make, protecting our democracy and liberty.
On behalf of Truro City Council and our community, we would like to say thank you.
